How to enable TCP/IP Network Protocol for SQL Server

In this article learn the quick way to enable Network Protocol for SQL Server. This procedure is tested on Microsoft SQL Server 2012.

  1. Start SQL Server Configuration Manager: click on Start, point to All Programs, and click on Microsoft SQL Server. Click on Configuration Tools, and then click on SQL Server Configuration Manager.
  2. In SQL Server Configuration Manager, in the console pane, expand SQL Server Network Configuration.
  3. In the console pane, click on Protocols for <your_instance_name>.
  4. In the details pane, right-click on TCP/IP, and then click on Enable.
  5. In the console pane, click on SQL Server Services.
  6. In the details pane, right-click on SQL Server (<instance_name>), and then click Restart, to stop and restart the SQL Server service.
