Data backup is the most important stuff when you work on computers or Internet . A data loss may happen sometimes, but if you have the backup copy of your WordPress blog or site, you can easily back up your site to the previous working state, with just a few clicks. As WordPress itself is very popular platform, there are many ways to make a backup. One of them is the free WordPress plugin „BackUpWordPress“, that’s really easy to install and use, suited for beginner users .
After you install and activate plugin, you can find it by clicking on Tools>Backups. After you open this page where you can download available backup copies, you will notice a blank page. It means that there are no existing backup copies, so you need to create a new schedule by clicking on + Add schedule
Here you can change various settings of your backups. For the first time, you should change the type of backup. Here you can choose:
- Database backup
- Database of files
- Or backup of both – databases and files
If you are not sure what you should choose, you should go with first options (Both Databases and Files). That means that backup of your WordPress will include all WordPress files and database where is stored all content (posts, text, files and other media). After that, you need to choose interval for creating a database. This interval can be on daily, weekly or monthly basis. If you are not sure what to choose, choose weekly backup ( you can also choose day and time when creating a new backup). If you have new posts every day, choose shorter intervals.
After you’ve chosen your backup intervals, you need to select the maximum number of backup copies which can be saved on your server. This depends on server capacity, so it’s recommended to set 10 (you can set a lower number, as well). When there’s no free space left, the new backup overwrites the oldest one . In the end , you can enter one or more email addresses if you want to be informed whether a backup is smaller than 10MB. Then you can also get backups attached in email messages.
When you click on UPDATE, new schedule is set , so the next time you visit this page, you’ll see available backups and download them on your PC.
Now, when you have the backup of your WordPress site, if data loss occurs, all you need to do is to send backup .zip file to your server. Depending on the server speed and amount of content, in only a few minutes you’ll have the latest working version of your WordPress site.
This plugin is free, and for more information and free dowload visit: BackUpWordPress
